All of our recent rainfall has complicated my efforts to get out for photography during the last month or so, but on Saturday, I took advantage of the start of our current "dry spell" and visited Washington Park in Anacortes. Even there, in what is theoretically one of the drier regions of western Washington, trail conditions were muddy and slippery. It felt fantastic to be out, though! Here are my best compositions from the morning, both with what I believe are Rocky Mountain juniper (Juniperus scopulorum, also known as seaside juniper) in the foreground. I think I like the first composition better, because the foreground tree is more clearly defined. In theory, I like the harsh tangle of branches in the foreground of the second, but the shapes don't stand out as strongly as they should. Both F/14.
