Along the Cedar River

On Saturday, I took my first photography trip of 2022, to the Landsburg Reach/Big Bend area near Ravensdale. There's a trailhead for the Cedar River Trail there, and access to a network of trails in several natural areas administered by King County. This general area has been on my radar for a while, and one of my goals for the new year was to spend more time exploring nearby county parks and natural areas, particularly in the winter.

First, the Cedar River from the north side. I like the framing that the mossy branches create, and the bit of snow in the background confirms the seasonal context of the image. F/16, 0.8 seconds.

Next, another view of the Cedar River, this time looking down from a bluff on the opposite side. The view was more impressive in person than this composition makes it seem. I wonder whether the snow is a distraction; the browns of the forest floor, or some bright green in early spring, might balance out this composition a bit. It might also be interesting to try a shot from this particular vantage point on a sunny day, when including the treetops and a bit of sky in the composition would feasible; that additional context could be beneficial.

That's all for now, but looking at the weather forecasts, we seem to have some dry (or at least drier) days ahead. Stay tuned!
